This article examines the issues of modernizing the teaching process of the discipline "Electrical Machines" in higher educational institutions, and the objective assessment of the level of transformation of students' theoretical knowledge into practical skills. The article analyzes the pedagogical effectiveness of non-standard test tasks (integrative, adaptive, criterion-oriented) aimed at testing a student's logical thinking, their ability to analyze engineering drawings, and interdisciplinary connections, in contrast to traditional (reproductive) tests. Samples of tests compiled on complex subject topics and scientific-methodological recommendations for their impact on student performance are also presented
