This article analyzes the renewal processes that began in Central Asian Muslim society in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the influence of socio-political and cultural changes in Europe and Russia on their formation. The ideological sources of the Jadid movement, reforms in the field of education, the role of the press and theater in enlightenment, as well as the activities of enlighteners such as Ismail Gasprinskiy, Mahmudhoja Behbudi and Ahmad Donish are highlighted
