Abstract
This article analyzes the stages of formation and development of oral history research in Karakalpakstan. Oral historical memory and traditional storytelling culture in the region have ancient roots and are preserved mainly through oral folk art, epics, and genealogical traditions. Since the second half of the 20th century, within the framework of scientific and ethnographic research, work on collecting and analyzing oral historical materials has acquired a systematic character. During the period of independence, oral history has risen to a new level as a means of restoring national memory and establishing historical justice. The article highlights the main directions, problems, and prospects of oral history research in Karakalpakstan
